Creating Characters & Exploring Illustration with Catherine Rayner at the V&A

Saturday 19 October 2019 at the V&A Dundee 

Meet award winning author and illustrator Catherine Rayner on Family Design Day. With picture books, including the acclaimed ‘Augustus and his Smile’, ‘Sylvia and Bird’ and ‘Solomon Crocodile’, her work has been published internationally and features dragons, hares, moose and bears.

13.30 - 14.30. Children age 3-7: "Creating Characters with Catherine Rayner" 

Transform simple shapes and spontaneous lines into beautifully designed characters

Hear some of your favourite tales read aloud in a storytelling session and learn new techniques to sketch and design a variety of characters. With step by step drawing techniques, Catherine will demonstrate how she uses simple, familiar forms to create animals, including Abigail the giraffe and Manfred the mammoth.

This event is suitable for ages 3-7 and children must be accompanied by an adult. Please book one ticket per person (adult tickets are free).

15.00 - 16.00. Children age 8-13: "Exploring Illustration with Catherine Rayner"

Find out how to turn an imaginative idea into a picture book

Get creative with a practical illustration design challenge after listening to some of your favourite tales read aloud in a storytelling session. Explore Catherine’s original sketchbooks and portfolio while hearing about the process of how she creates characters, illustrations and stories.

This event is suitable for ages 8-13 and children must be accompanied by an adult. Please book one ticket per person (adult tickets are free).
